Arianna & Friends organizes Vip truffle hunting experience near Peccioli with our truffle hunter Matteo and his dog. After the hunt, a rich truffle-based lunch will be served with excellent wines. A day for real foodies!
After lunch, you will visit a very peculiar, one-of-a-kind Tuscan village a few kilometres from the truffle area: Ghizzano.
Meet Matteo and his dogs
Together with your guide, you are invited to visit the countryside area called Valdera, where gentle hills alternate with hilltop villages, each telling interesting stories. You will reach a beautiful organic farm, where you meet our charismatic truffle hunter Matteo, who will welcome you to his home. He lives here, finds fresh truffles on his land, and processes some of them into delicious products to use for special meals.
The truffle hunting experience
What is a truffle? How does it grow underground? Why is it so expensive? After an educational introduction to the world of truffles with your guide, you will enjoy a pleasant walk in the woods with Matteo's dogs and learn everything about this fascinating world. According to the season, you will search for black or white truffles. It will be very interesting to see the relationship between the truffle hunter and his dogs. This will be a fun activity for you and your friends.
Truffle based lunch
After this amazing experience, Matteo will open his house to you. You will be served a rich gourmet truffle-based lunch in his dining room with a fireplace or on the terrace with a view. The food is paired with top wines produced by an organic winery in the area.
Visit to the colorful village of Ghizzano
After lunch, enjoy a guided visit to the nearby small town of Ghizzano. It will be like walking through an open-air art gallery in the Tuscan hills. The houses in Via di Mezzo are painted in colours inspired by nature, creating a living artwork, and there are several contemporary art installations by both local and international artists to discover as you walk.
1-hour extension of the tour: visit to Peccioli
If you have time to spend with your guide, we suggest visiting the charming town of Peccioli, where history and contemporary art meet. You will walk around the old centre, reach the restored Palazzo Senza Tempo with its suspended terrace, and enjoy discovering many modern art installations spread throughout the town. Peccioli has been called a "little capital of contemporary art" and was voted Borgo dei Borghi for its mix of tradition, landscape, and exciting public art. The guide will also take you to a local pastry shop for a delicious coffee break.

This tour includes a walk through the woods on terrain that is not always flat and a few more challenging stretches. If you have any accessibility needs — whether mobility-related, sensory, cognitive, or any other requirements — please let us know in advance and we will do our best to adapt the itinerary for you.

This tour takes place in the rural area of Tuscany, in central Tuscany. About 20 km from Selvatelle, 10 km from Volterra, 20 km from San Gimignano and Montaione.

The destinations reached during this activity are in the Tuscan countryside, in areas off the beaten track that cannot be reached by public transport. We highly recommend renting a car in order to reach them. As an alternative, we can offer a valued service by chauffeured car, van or minibus. Any cost of transportation is to be added to the rates displayed on the rate table of this page.
